Diatomite is a very well known organic insecticide. Another name for diatomite is diatomaceous earth. Diatomaceous earth is safe and effective in destroying inside bugs like bedbugs, but is used mainly in gardens. Through application of diatomaceous earth bedbugs are often eliminated in a brief period, without waiting.
Diatomaceous earth is found in nature in the form of sedimentary rocks. It’s typically grounded into powder when it has been mined. The powder is white in appearance and has a texture the same as talcum powder. Diatomaceous earth that is ground up into a powder makes particles that have sharp edges. These edges are not sharp enough to cause any issue to mankind; however, they will pierce the body of an insect that encounters it. Once the diatomaceous earth has penetrated the body, it dries out the insect and they then pass away.
The application of diatomaceous earth is quite simple, sprinkle the product in and around the bed. Bedbugs aren’t airborne, so in order to feed on bedded humans they will have to travel through the powder. With only a single treatment of diatomaceous earth bedbugs are not necessarily going to be eliminated. As bedbugs are known to relocate off the bed and hide during the daylight hours, it make take more than one usage of the product to completely eradicate these pests.
